Artists often become known for painting a particular subject in one distinct style. Artist Erin Rosen has a growing reputation for exploring several subjects in the oil as well as gouache mediums. Erin's curiosity and eye for beauty will not allow her to be placed into a proverbial box, for she strives to maintain the freedom to paint without too much concern of what might be “expected." Although her work is varied, several characteristics remain constant: Confident brushwork; a mature simplicity; and a keen sensitivity to color, light and atmosphere.
Although she earned her B.A. degree in Studio Art, her painting style is mostly self-taught with influences from the American Impressionist and Tonalist painters of the turn of the 20th century. The results can be described as a delicate blending of reality with mystery, passion with restraint, and skill with inspiration. Most of Erin’s work is done in the “alla prima” tradition--a process which lends itself to the overall feeling of boldness and immediacy evident in her work.
Erin’s work has been in numerous national and regional juried exhibitions including the California Art Club’s Gold Medal Exhibition, Salon International, and the American Impressionist Society’s Annual Exhibition where she won “Best of Show.” She has often used her artwork to raise funds for charitable organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Rainbow Acres, and The Pasadena Humane Society. Erin’s artwork can be found in several galleries and group exhibitions throughout the West.
